Strengths: Athletic free safety prospect who can play center field, but also come up and play a physical game – Defensive leader and permanent captain at LSU – Likes to make the big hit and tries to separate the receiver from the ball – Former cornerback, exhibits average cover skills from the position – Can move down and play over the slot – Does a good job of reading the quarterback’s eyes and breaking on the route – Smart player, makes a lot of the defensive calls and knows everyone’s coverage responsibilities – Willing to come down in the box and when he does, fills running lanes nicely – Does a good job of coming up and setting the edge in run support – Above average athlete, with good hips and plus speed for the position – Shows the ability to turn and run with receivers and cover the deep third – Has good ball skills, tracks the ball well and makes plays on the ball, not the man.
Weaknesses: Takes poor angles in run support, over aggressive, leaves himself susceptible to cutbacks – Best suited to play in a zone scheme, as he struggles a little bit in man to man coverage – Poor technique when tackling, leaves his feet too easily and throws his body at the ball carrier instead of wrapping – Plays with a little too much freedom at times, takes unnecessary chances that he was able to get away with at LSU, but won’t be able to in the pros – Range is only average, I would like to see him come up with more interceptions and get to his spots just a second earlier than he currently is.
